Focus on the current British Petroleum debacle may be just a modest indicator of potential.

Since the 1940's gas and oil wells have been capped or abandoned in the Gulf. Imagine the technology available in the 1940's. And then imagine the number of such wells is around 27 thousand.

Interestingly all attention has been on tarballs on beaches and folks that have lost their jobs and less on the effect on the water environment where millions of gallons of oil floats seen but mostly unseen, and the long term effects of a gusher that is well, still gushing. And not a mention of the Gulf stream that meanders up by Cobbs then further north and east.....Get your lobster now.
